Laurence LAVIN
(3 Feb 1932 - 13 Nov 1984)
Laurence entered the Columban Seminary at Dalgan Park, Navan, Co. Meath in 1950. He was ordained in 1956 and the following year headed for Korea where he served as a missionary until 1968 when he joined the United States Armed Forces as a chaplain. He served in Vietnam from January 1969 until January 1970, thereafter serving in Korea and later in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for distinguishing himself in connection with military operations in Vietnam. He left military service in 1973 and returned to Ireland where he worked at a religious-run institution which cared for disabled children.
