Michael CONNOLLY

Michael's family appears to be connected to the Murphy family of my husband, Joe Gordon, whose Murphy ancestors came from Co. Carlow. However I have not yet been able to determine how the families were related. All I have to go on is an account of a week-long childhood holiday spent by a Murphy cousin of Joe's with Tom Connolly and his family of Aughnabrone (also spelled Aughnabroon), Co. Waterford. Tom was a son of Michael above. Joe's cousin believes the Connollys were cousins of hers on her father's Murphy side, but the only Murphy connection I can find at the moment is the marriage of one of Tom's daughters, Betty, to Ned Murphy, but his family appears to have come from Co. Waterford, not Carlow.
The only other possibility I can think of is that the connection between the Connollys and Murphys is through the Power family. The maiden name of Tom's wife, Maisie, was Power; her family came from Co. Waterford. Joe's great-great-grandfather John William Murphy (c.1811-1887) was married to a Mary McDonald whose mother's maiden name was Power. However, I can find nothing to suggest that this Power family had Co. Waterford connections, and I think it more likely they came from Co. Carlow.
