Individual Details

John GALLIVAN

( - Bet 1826 and 1836)

It appears John moved from Rathea in Lixnaw, Co. Kerry around 1820 to the small townland of Patch (comprising just 143 acres) in Duagh, Co. Kerry. He is listed in the Tithes for Patch in 1824, and when the Tithes were compiled again in 1836, the name of the occupier was Margaret Galvin, presumably John's wife, so it appears John died sometime between 1826 (year before birth of last known child) and 1836. By the time of Griffiths Valuation in the 1850s, the farm had been divided between John's sons Jeremiah and James. This two way split has remained ever since.

It is thought the Gallivan family of Rathea/Patch is connected to the Gallivan/Galvin family of Gortaclahane, Lixnaw, Co. Kerry, but the exact relationship, if any, has not been established.
