Edmund HUSSEY

Edmund's baptismal sponsors were Patrick [surname illegible] and Anna Roper.
Edmund attended school at Baylis House, Slough, Berkshire (now a hotel) and later, from 1888 until 1890, St. Edmund's Roman Catholic College, Ware, Hertfordshire. He went on to become a publican, later an undertaker and later still an estate agent. The 1901 census sees him running The Cambridge public house at 54 Cambridge Road in Hammersmith while the 1911 census tells us he was an undertaker, living at 3 Holland Place Chambers in Kensington. As an undertaker he ran Hussey Bros. Funeral Directors with his brother Jack. The electoral register tells us that Edmund was still resident at 3 Holland Place Chambers in 1914.
Edmund joined the Middlesex Regiment in 1917 and may have suffered shell shock during service in World War I. On 2 June 1922 he was admitted to Cane Hill Mental Hospital in Surrey where he remained until 17 October 1934 when he was transferrred to Leavsden psychiatric hospital in Hertfordshire. According to Leavesden records, Edmund's profession had been a clerk; perhaps that was his primary role in the occupations listed above. Edmund died at Leavesden in 1955 at the age of 81 of broncho-pneumonia, myocardial degeneration and arterio sclerosis, with pulmonary tuberculosis as a secondary cause of death.
