William was ordained a priest on 3 May 1918 at St. Patrick College in Carlow. From there he went to Kansas where in 1922 he was appointed assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Salina, before serving as pastor at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Herington; St. Joseph Parish in Brookville; St. Columba Parish in Elmo (with a mission in Gypsum). In 1951 he was appointed chaplain at St. Ann's Home in Concordia and later at Home of the Little Flower in Concordia. William retired in 1963.
