Laurence MCDONALD (caution: relationship to sister Mary not verified)

(Abt 1819 - Poss 23 Aug 1885)

My husband, Joe Gordon, has been DNA-matched by Ancestry with a descendant of a Laurence's. If the DNA match is through the McDonald family (which it appears to be), the type of match indicates that Laurence may have been a brother of Joe's great-great-grandmother Mary McDonald. However Laurence and Mary may also have been first cousins. For now I am positioning Laurence as Mary's brother and have added a caution.

Laurence worked as a farm steward. All of his and Margaret's 12 children who survived into adulthood emigrated to the United States, most settling in Chicago.

I see on a couple of public family trees on the Ancestry website that Laurence died on 23 August 1885 in Ireland but I have been unable to locate a 1885 death record for him. Could the Laurence McDonal (sic) who died (of "decline") on 10 December 1882 aged 50 in Ballinaberna, Ballywilliam, Co. Wexford have been Laurence above? The name of the informant on the death receord was a son, John McDonal of Ballinaberna.
