Dominic MORAHAN (caution: not verified)
( - )
We are not sure sure at all that Dominic was the father of John Morahan, the great-great-grandfather of my husband, Joe Gordon. However, it appears John had siblings named Charles and Thomas, and we have discovered that Dominic and his wife, Mary (née Killilea) had children named Charles, John and Thomas, along with two other children, Margaret and Mary. For now I am positioning John as a son of Dominic and Mary. I am also adding Bridget as a sibling of John's as Joe has been DNA-matched with descendants of Bridget's, the type of match indicating a close relationship between Bridget and John.
Morahan is an unusual surname in Ireland but is not uncommon in Connaught. It comes from the Irish 'Ó Murcháin' of which there were two septs, one in Offaly and one in Leitrim. The name is sometimes spelled 'Moraghan', or shortened to 'Moran'.
