John and his wife, Kate, emigrated to Argentina with their children, probably towards the very end of the 19th century. Tens of thousands of Irish emigrated to Argentina throughout the 19th and in the early part of the 20th centuries seeking a better life, although several thousand returned to Ireland or moved on to the United States or Australia. John and Kate themselves, along with their son Thomas, appear to have stayed in Argentina, while their remaining children (that we know of) left Argentina for the United States or returned to Ireland.
