Padraig was a teacher in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow before being appointed principal of St. Peter's National School in Phibsboro, Dublin where he spent several years. He held a PhD and was a founding member of the Irish Folklore Commission and Clann na hEireann. He was also a member of both Dublin city and county Vocational and Educational Committees.
