Individual Details

In Michael's obituary in The Corsicana Daily Sun we are told he emigrated to the United States in 1903 and initially lived in Helena, Montana where he worked in mining. While in Montana, he was also was involved, along with his first cousin Larry Morahan, in the publication of the Irish nationalist Butte Independent newspaper.

Michael later moved to San Angelo, Texas where he reported for the San Angelo Times, and then moved to Corsicana, also in Texas, where he married Ellen in 1915. Michael and Ellen then moved to Marlin, Texas where Michael founded the Family Life Insurance Company in 1917. Michael died in the County Hospital in Rosommon, having been taken ill while on holiday back in Ireland. The cause of death was "cerebral thrombosis, arterio-sclerosis, cardiac asthaenia" and his address on his death certificate was Waco, Texas, not far from Marlin.
