Individual Details
Stephen BARRETT
(1911 - 28 Jul 1935)
Stephen graduated from UCD with an Arts degree. He played Gaelic football for UCD and was a Sigerson Cup medal winner. He went on to teach at Xavier School in Donnybrook in Dublin and was a part-time teacher of English and mathematics at Dun Laoghaire Vocational School, Co. Dublin. He died at the age of just 24 of tuberculosis.
Stephen's obituary in The Kerryman states that Stephen was a "near relative of The O'Rahilly [Irish nationalist from Ballylongford, Co. Kerry who was killed in the 1916 Rising] and of Professor Alfred O'Rahilly, U.C.C." One of Stephen's great-grandmothers was Elizabeth Rahilly, which was presumably his connection to the O'Rahilly.
