John's baptismal sponsors were John Roche and Honora Danaher.

John was from Upper Athea, Co. Limerick but later lived in Knocknasna, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. I have been given information from a family source that John's wife, Johanna, "married into a farm of four cows", which was presumably in Knocknasna as that is where their elder children were born. Around 1903 the family moved from Knocknasna to Beennanaspuck in Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

John died at the age of 54 of Addison's disease (three years) and tuberculosis (eight months).

Note: I have seen the names of John and Johanna's children written as both Halloran and O'Halloran.
