Individual Details
Ellen (Helen) HARNETT
(9 Oct 1908 - )
Helen emigrated to the United States with her older sister Bridget in 1927. Listed on the ship manifest of a vessel arriving on 17 February 1927 are 22-year-old Bridget Harnett and 18-year-old Ellen Harnett from Dromtrasna O'Brien in Abbeyfeale.
Helen's Petition for Naturalization, dated 13 April 1937, tells us that Ellen was working at the time as a waitress and was living with her sister Kitty (Monahan) at 559 W. 172nd St., Bronx, New York.
Ellen may have later returned home as she is listed as a Mrs. Ellen Collins of Ballaugh, Abbeyfeale in a newspaper obituary of her father who died in 1939. Her eldest sister, Mary, was also married to a Mr. Collins and lived in Ballaugh so it could be there was an error in the obituary.
