John farmed in Kilcox (often spelled as Kilcock in older documents). In 1912 he purchased the 177-acre farm in Tullahinell, Asdee, Co. Kerry previously owned by a William Wharton and left this to his son Tom. His elder son, Dick, inherited the Kilcox farm.
