Individual Details
Michael MAXWELL
(Abt 1895 - )
Michael emigrated to the United States and returned to Ireland with a small fortune, enough to buy Woodbrook House from the Kirkwood family in 1946. Much of the rest of the estate was sold by the Kirkwoods to the Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club.
The Kirkwoods had come to Ireland in the 17th century as Cromwellian 'planters' and were given the Kirkwood estate. It is said that the Maxwells had previously owned some or all of Woodbrook land.
