Individual Details

Frederick (Fred) W. BINGE

(1923 - 1985)

It appears Frederick's parents moved to Britain from India with their young family in 1934.

Frederick survived a U-boat attack on a ship he was serving on during World War I. On 23 February 1943, while travelling south of the Azores, the SS Empire Norseman was torpedoed. All 53 on board were picked up by HMS Totland before another U-boat strike sunk the ship. The survivors were then transferred to Dutch merchant ship Maaskerk and were landed in Trinidad.

Frederick and his wife, Hannah, lived in South Harrow in London.
