Dennis's career was spent in the employment, education and training sectors. He was the first Apprenticeship Officer appointed to the Housing Industry Association of New South Wales and was also Managing Director of the Master Painters Group Training Company. In 2007 he established the Painting Industry Training Centre, having previously been appointed Executive Director of the Construction Industry Training Advisory Board. He later worked as a business manager for an education and training organisation in New South Wales.
