Individual Details
Elizabeth (Lizzie) GORDON
(22 Nov 1878 - Dec 1957)
In June 1898 Lizzie left Ireland for the United States, her sister Ellen having sent her the money for the fare. The ship manifest tells us that Lizzie was joining Ellen at 17 West 55th St. in New York. Lizzie found employment with a family in New York City and when they moved to upstate New York she moved with them and lived upstate for the rest of her life. In the 1920s it is known that she and her husband, Dwight, were living in Mohawk, New York.
James and Paul, two of Lizzie and Dwight's three sons, were killed while serving in the U.S. Army in World War II. As a result, their brother, John, was recalled home by the Army as losing two sons was deemed enough sacrifice for one family.
