According to family lore, the Flaherty/O'Flaherty family of Newtownsandes (Moyvane) orininated in the Aran Islands, Co. Galway but had been driven from there owing to the activities (type unspecified) of a family member known as Ned the Grabber. Perhaps he was a land grabber.
