Mary HAYES

Mary's baptismal sponsors were John Roche and Bridget Hayes.
I have been told by one family source that Mary "died in the U.S." However, I have also been told by another source that she was the Mary Hayes from Fairy Street who married a Johnny Hanrahan in Coolcappagh-Kilcolman, Co. Limerick on 13 February 1848 (when Mary would have been just 13 years old). It is not known where Johnny was from but I was told that one of his grandmothers was from Fairy Street. This Mary who married Johnny Hanrahan was related to Dr. Tom Hayes of Rathkeale, Co. Limerick (who was a first cousin of Mary above) but the exact type of connection is not known. Mary and Johnny lived in Kerrikyle, Ardagh, Co. Limerick and had a large family, all of whom emigrated to the United States except for their eldest daughter who emigrated to Australia, and a son, Paddy, who stayed at home and inherited the small farm. All the other children went to New York where they had an aunt, Ann Hanrahan. The youngest Catherine, who was born in 1873, later returned to Ireland and married Mike Donovan, also from Co. Limerick. Johnny predeceased Mary who lived with Paddy on the farm until Catherine married and brought her to live with herself and Mike in Newbridge, Altavilla, Askeaton, Co. Limerick. Johnny was buried in Ardagh and Mary in Nantinan (near Askeaton), Co. Limerick, next to a Noonan grave. It is thought Mary was related to a Noonan family.
I have another Mary Hayes from Fairy Street in my family tree, a double first cousin of Mary Hayes above (their fathers were brothers and their mothers were sisters). This Mary was born around 1835 to Tom Hayes and Mary Downey and I am told by a family source that she "went to the USA". It could be that there has been some confusion between the two cousins and that perhaps only one settled in the U.S. and the other married Johnny Hanrahan. Given her apparent connection with Dr. Tom Hayes it does seem that the Mary who married Johnny was related to Mary above so if anyone knows how exactly they might be connected I would be very grateful if you would email HelensFamilyTrees@gmail.com.
