Samuel Tibbetts

(1666 - 8 November 1738)

Samuel and Dorothy resided in Dover, NH. Samuel was a tanner and he was a captain in the French and Indian War. He had a grant of half a saw mill privilege in 1701, was a selectman of Dover 1702, and a Deacon in the church. He was one of the first "whole Share Proprietors" of Rochester, NH, land which he left to grandson Samuel Tibbetts. He also was a farmer & served as a Deputy from Dover to Colonial Legislature in 1715, 17l6, 1719 & 1720.
After Dorothy's death, Samuel married his first cousin widow Rebecca Nock Willey in about 1708 and third, Rachel, who is named in his will.
In his will, he described his land: "his homestead land on both sides of the way, together with orchards, dwelling house and barn and all other edifices and buildings standing and being upon said homestead land, also his tan yard tan pits together with the hides and leather and tanning tools or utensils, also his four working cattle or oxen, and twenty acres of land lying up at Malliago River so-called in Dover, and eighteen acres of land to be laid out in the common or undivided lands of said Dover."
