Captain John Abbott, second child of Deacon John and Elizabeth (Hardin) Abbott, was born in Andover, August 3, 1704, died November 10, 1793. He resided in his father's homestead. He was an influential citizen, serving as a selectman and militia captain in 1754 during the French and Indian War.
He was probably also a slave owner. There is a death record in the Andover, Essex County records for a Negro Dina "of Capt. John Abbott's family," who died of a dreadful burn, and was buried February 3, 1800, age 50 years.
