Phillip Anton du Trieux

(1586 - 23 July 1650)

Phillip and his wife Susanna du Chense and their children came on the ship New Netherland in 1624 to New Amsterdam. These included three surviving children from Phillip's first marriage and Phillip and Susanna's oldest child. Upon the purchase of Manhattan Island in 1626 all Dutch and Walloon settlers were gathered from their original 1624 settlement points and brought to Manhattan. He became an employee of the Dutch West India Company and served until his death as court messenger or marshall. Phillip and his son were reportedly killed by Indians, but the details of this are not known.
