John Belgrave
(1535 - February 1591)
John Belgrave was born in England, probably in Cambridgeshire or Suffolk. He may have been the son of Richard Belgrave and Elizabeth Hadlestone. As an adult, he was a yeoman, or farmer, in Leverington, Cambridgeshire. He married Joanna Strutt, daughter of John and Catherine Strutt at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Glemsford, Suffolk, which was her home, on September 22, 1560. They returned to live in Leverington, where they had nine children. Joanna must have died of complications following the birth of her last child, Barbara, who was baptised June 27, 1577. Joanna and her daughter were buried in the churchyard of St. Leonard's Church in Leverington, Joanna on August 14 of that year, and her daughter Barbara on September 17.
John married again, Elizabeth Fairfax, and had three more children. John made his will on February 3, 1591 and was buried on the twelfth, in St. Leonard's churchyard in Leverington.
