Individual Details
Judith Knight
(Abt 1626 - 14 December 1675)
Judith Knight came to Newbury with her family in 1635. Her husband Hugh March, although he was a servant when he came to Newbury, must have been successful later. In 1653, Hugh March appeared before the court when his wife Judith was before it for wearing a silken scarf in public. In that case, Hugh displayed evidence that he "held Worthe in excess of 200". The case was dismissed. Apparently, you were not to flaunt your wealth.
Traditional family stories say that the last time all the members of this family were together was at the funeral of their mother, Judith in December of 1675. After that, certain differences arose between Hugh and his son John March. These differences led to harsh words, and, from the time of his marriage in 1676 Hugh was not to have "a cordial father-to-son talk" with John.
Her parentage is not certain. She was either the sister or the daughter of either John Knight or Richard Knight.
