Captain William Gerrish
(20 August 1617 - 9 August 1687)
He came on the ship Jonathan from England to America arriving in 1639, and removing to Newbury in 1640. One of the first settlers of Newbury, he was also the first Captain of the Militia in Newbury and married Joanna Lowell Olliver (the daughter of Percival Lowell and Rebecca Goodale and widow of John Olliver) on April 17, 1645 in Newbury. After Joanna died, he removed to Boston where he had a business on Long Wharf. His second marriage was to Ann Pierce. She died in Boston after June, 1677. He died at the home of his son, Benjamin, in Salem. His will was proven on 5 December 1687 in Essex County Massachusetts.

His will was probated 5 December 1687. In his will are mentioned wife Anne Gerrish (his second wife); former wife's daughter Mary Appleton; his sons John, Joseph, and Benjamin; three children of his son William namely William, Bethiah, and Parson; son Moses; daughter Elizabeth Greenleafe; and daughter Mary Doll.Endnotes
