From Vance Marshall 28 November 1980:
I am sorry to announce the passing of one of "My Hamps" has passed away, Laurence Hamp, whom we affectionately call Uncle died last Sunday morning November 23, 1980 at the same nursing home, Fostorian Manor, where my wife is in Flushing. He had been in and out of the hospital and nursing home since early May and was just st4eaqdily going down hill, but he never gave up and I'm sure he didn't realize he was dying. He kept talking about all the things he was going to do as soon as he got home and then just slipped away without pain or suffering. Walter and Pat flew back here and now have left again for Arizona. He was a good and inspiring man and left the world a happier place because of his being here. He loved life and lived it to the fullest in a clean wholesome way and gave of himself. He knew people and loved them and had many many friends and acquaintances.
