Ruby Yoder Wyse was born in Elkhart County, Ind. On Aug. 30, 1921, and died June 25, 2008. al the age of 86. She was the fifth child in a close-knit family of 10 born to Daniel and Magdalena Bontrager Yoder. She proudly accepted Christ Jesus as her savior at the age of 14.Despite frequent family relocations, she successfully graduated from Shipshewana (Ind.) High School in 1940. Ruby met her future husband, Ora, in May 1939. After an engagement that was prolonged due to the war, they were married Jan. 1, 1943. The marriage lasted 58 years until Ora's death in 2001. They were blessed with four children, and lived a busy, productive life on the family farm in Archbold, Ohio. After 26 years farming, they moved to Archbold for their remaining years. Ruby was a tireless caregiver for many people, including her younger siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her optimism and beautiful spirit were an inspiration to many people. She loved to serve others and did volunteer work for many years with local organizations. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, quilt-making, and gardening.Ruby is survived by four children, Larry (Donna) Wyse, Archbold, Gene (Karianne) Wyse Kearney, Neb., Anna (Bill) Fisher, Syracuse, Ind., and Susie Wyse, Milan, Ohio. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Catherine Miller, Maggie (Gerald) Yoder, Mary (Alvin) Bontrager and Lucille Blue.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ora; brothers, John and Orva; and sisters, Alta Yoder, Ida Mae Yoder, and Elma Stauffer. Memorial services were held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastors Sherm Kauffman and Mona Sauder officiating. Interment preceded at 10 a.m. in the Pettisville Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ruby's honor may be given to Fairlawn Haven, Archbold.
