Notes for JOHN F. WYSE:
John F Wyse, born Jean Weiss in Montbeliard, France. His biography as written in "Portrait and Biographical Album of Henry County, Iowa, 1888" states he was born Sept. 15, 1828; however, an original document in the possession of Doris Fredericks Thompson (granddaughter of Mary Ann Wyse - whose father was Peter F Wyse, John's brother) is an "Extract of Register of Records of the Civil Government of the Commune of Montbeliard" dated 25 February, 1850, which states, Jean Weiss, son of Marie Eicher and Joseph Weiss, was born 3:30 A.M., 23 September, 1828. This document also states that Joseph and Marie Weiss were domiciled at Petit-Magny, Canton of Villersexeles, Haute Saone. This document was probably secured in preparation to emigrate to America.

Immigrated Le Havre, France to New York and listed as "Jean Weiss" on the ship Elisabeth Denison arriving May 3, 1850. Land records found in the Fulton County Courthouse show him buying 160 acres from Phillip Fry (Frey) Feb 17, 1854 and sold 80 of those acres to his brother, Peter F Wyse, April 15, 1859. It is assumed John F and Peter F Wyse were working as laborers to accumulate funds to purchase their own farms between the years 1850 and 1854. They have not been found, to date, in the 1850 census; but, believe they are there since their sister, Catherine Wyse Lauber, is found in the 1850 census, married to Christian Lauber, Jr. and living with her mother-in-law and father-in-law. Land records also recorded John F and wife, Mary Graff Wyse, selling the other 80 acres to John Leu, Mar 20, 1868. Was known as "Lame John" due to a limp that resulted from an injury while still living in France.

John F. Wyse and family moved to Trenton Twp, Henry Co, Iowa in Mar 1868..Moved back to Brady Twp, Williams Co., Ohio in 1911, where his only surviving son of 5 born, Christian F. and family; and, a daughter, Barbara, Mrs Peter Graber, lived.
