Elmer was the last member of the Amish Mennonite Church to wear a beard.

Wyse, Elmer, son of Stephen and Barbara (Schantz) Wyse, was born in Olds, Iowa, July 13, 1884; died at Parkview Home, Wayland, Iowa, Aug. 16, 1978; aged 94 y. On Feb. 16, 1908, he was married to Mary Alliman, who died on Feb. 17, 1974. Surviving are one daughter (Esther Mrs. William Mabe), 2 sons (Mahlon and Vernon), 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Amanda Krabill). He was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Aug. 21, in charge of Oliver Yutzy and Willard Leichty; interment in Bethel Cemetery.

Wyse, Elmer J., was born near Archbold, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1874; died at the Detwiler Hospital, Wauseon, Ohio, of pneumonia, Feb. 19, 1960; aged 85 y. 2 m. 26 d. On Dec. 29, 1895, he was married to Ella Wyse, who died Sept. 27, 1930. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are 3 daughters and one son (Mrs. Wilma Sauder, Wauseon; Arminda--Mrs. Joe Lehman, Archbold; Rosella at home, Elmira, Ohio; and Ervin, Archbold), 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters (Mrs. Emma Nofziger and Mrs. Elizabeth Short, both of Archbold). One daughter preceded him in death. He was a member of the Central Church, where funeral services were held Feb. 23, in charge of Walter Stuckey and Jesse Short; interment at Pettisville, Ohio.
