Elias WYSE

(1854 - 5 May 1921)

In 1860, elias lived with his parents John and Anna, who farmed section 1 NE of Burlington in German Township. Confirmed by a 1858 Fulton County map (1860 census, 1858 Fulton Co map).
In the 1870 census, John is still listed as a farmer, but in an 1874 map of Fulton Co., Elias' older brother Christian is shown owning his fathers farm (1870 census, Fulton Co Map 1874). It is probably within this time period when Elias persued higher education, and perhaps taught in some of the Fulton Co Schools.
In the 1880 census, Elias is shown as being recently married, and living in Burlington OH. He was running a store, and living with their Clerk August Oberly, who was a 25 year old immigrant from Alsace Lorraine (1880 census). A 1976 book called the "Fulton County History" states that Elias was the Superintendent of the Archbold School area for one year, which was the 1893-1894 school year.
The 1900 census shows Elias as living in Clinton Twp. selling insurance for a living. Also, in the 1903 county Atlas, Elias is not shown as owning farmland anywhere in the county. However, in Mikesell's 1905 history, Eli and his wife are stated as living in Franklin Twp., and in the 1910 census, Eli is living back in Franklin Twp, and is now listed as a farmer.
