Born Sept. 29, 1929, in Wayland, he was the son of Huber and Emily Speidel Wyse. On Nov. 23, 1949, he married Rozena Mae Christner near Washington.
Mr. Wyse worked his family farm. He also owned and operated a plumbing shop in Brighton in the late 1960s and 1970s. As a senior in high school, he drove a school bus for the Wayland School District and later for WACO and Washington school districts.
He was a 1947 graduate of Wayland High School. He lived in Wayland for eight years before moving to the family farm near Washington in 1962. He served as mayor and councilman of Wayland. He also was a member of the Washington Farm Bureau. He loved sports and played basketball and baseball in high school. He bowled in Mount Pleasant and Washington and played fast pitch softball until he was 40. He was Donavan's Babe Ruth baseball coach in Washington and took the team to the semi-finals. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Tanya Kay Greiner of Richland, Shelda Renee Swift of Washington and Dawnell Ray Doreo of Riverside; one son, Donavan Scott Wyse of Washington; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Darlene McCoy of Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Wyse will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home, with Ilene Schnicker officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the American Lung Association.
