Thomas Peabody

He moved from Andover, MA to Peabody's Patent (Now Gilead, ME) in 1799. Peabody's Tavern in Gilead, built around 1800 for Thomas Peabody an early settler who came from Bridgton in 1798. An important stage stop on the route Portland to Lancaster. A few yards west of the Tavern is the Peabody Cemetary that contains graves of many of the Peabodys, including John, son of Thomas who was a prominent lumber manufacturer and public servant.
