John Webster

(1632 - 1713/14)

From Webster: 'About 1634 he emigrated to American with his parents and one older sister, Mary. After first residing in Boston, they soon moved to Newbury and by the time young John was about 10, the family had settled at Ipswich. John was about 14 years old when his father died and being the oldest son of eight children presumably assumed some family responsibilities. ...Except for a period of about 4 years between 1653 and 1657, John and his family lived in Newbury, Ma., where John was a blacksmith. He is also referred to as Sergeant John Webster so apparently he was associated with the military in some manner. Both John and his wife Anne were members of the Newbury church being admitted as members in 1674.'
