Family History: New England Families #2(IV) Benjamin, son of John (2) Batcheller,was born in Wenham about 1714, died inSeptember, 1761. He lived in Ipswich andBrookfield, Massachusetts. On December 4,1748, he signed a petition to have the partlater incorporated as North Brookfield setoff as a district parish. Guardians were appointedfor his children on October 17, 1761.Benjamin A. Adams was appointed for Benjamin,aged above twelve; Abner Tyler forHannah, aged sixteen, and Hulda, aged fourteen;Daniel Gilbert and Benjamin Adamsfor John, Jacob and Lydia. He married, inBoxford, Massachusetts, January 25, 1738-39,Hannah Hale, born there April 27, 1719, diedSeptember 22, 1762, daughter of Joseph Hale,who came with his mother from Newburyto Boxford in 1691. Joseph Hale was bornthere February 20, 167--, son of Thomasand Mary Hale; Mary was daughter of Richardand Alice (Bosworth) Hutchinson, andshe was baptized in North Markham, Nottshire,England, December 28, 1630. As awidow, Mary owned two hundred and eightyacres of land in Boxford, and she agreed togive half of this to her son Joseph if he wouldmarry Mary Watson, as he afterwards did.Joseph Hale was a prominent man in Boxfordand owned much land there; he servedas selectman and representative, and also wasensign, lieutenant and captain in the militia,being called on the early town records, Clerkof the Band.'
