His father was Count of Hainaut until 958, but fell in disgrace with Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor and lost his County to Godfrey I, Duke of Lower Lorraine.

He received the County of Mons in 973 but was replaced with Godfrey I, Count of Verdun in 974. He replaced Godfrey as Count of Mons in 998.

Reginar V, Count of Mons, married Mathilde of Verdun, daughter of Herman, Count of Brabant.

Beatrix, who married Ebles I, Count of Rheims and Roucy and Archbishop of Rheims.
Ermentrude, died at the age of two or three; buried in the Collegiate Church of Saint Gertrude in Nivelles, Belgium. The burial came to light during an excavation. A lead cross, inscribed with her name and that of her parents, was found in the tomb.

Régnier IV , born after 947 , died in 1013 , was titular count of Hainaut from 958 to 1013 , effective count of Hainaut from 973 to 974 and count of Mons from 998 to 1013 . He was the son of Régnier III , count of Hainaut.

He was still a teenager when his father was exiled to Bohemia in 958 , and he took refuge in the court of France with his family. In 973 , with his brother Lambert , he attacked the counts Renaud and Garnier , to whom Hainaut had been entrusted, killed them in Péronne and began to occupy Hainaut, but the emperor Otton II repulsed them.

In 976 , helped by Charles , brother of King Lothaire of France and Count Otton de Vermandois , they attacked the new counts of Hainaut, Godefroy de Verdun and Arnould de Valenciennes . Otton II, to stem the threat, grants Charles the duchy of Basse-Lotharingie and Régnier part of his father's possessions, but it was not until 998 that Régnier recovered the county of Mons.
