Services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the Florence Street Baptist Church, 200 W. Florence St., Broken Arrow, OK 74011 officiated by Pastor Dwight West.Dixie was born on July 29, 1947 in Pittsburg, Kansas and was the only child of Dick Butler and Helen Brown Butler. She received her elementary and secondary education in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg State University majoring in Fine Arts Education. Dixie also had a minor in World Literature from Oregon State University at Corvallis, Oregon.In 1968, she married Donald E. Spears and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where daughter, Robyn was born. Dixies' teaching career began here: she taught at Cleveland Jr. High School for 21 years; then at Nathan Hale Senior High School for 10 years before retiring in 2002. She taught Art, Drama, Stagecraft, World Literature, and Yearbook and was also a mural painter at numerous restaurants in Tulsa.Johnson D.H. Kemp and Dixie were married in 1980; Sebastion Beau was born in 1980 and Tivia Lea was born in 1982.Dixie is survived by her husband, John, her children: Robyn (David) Spears Sevais; Beau Butler Kemp; and Tivia (Shawn) Kemp Taylor; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
