Individual Details
Mark Renfroe
(Abt 1805 - 1839)
Mark Renfroe is on the Perry Co. Tenn 1830 Census. He lives near Benjamin
Hensley his father in law and Nathaniel Renfroe who I think is his father. In 1840, his widow Elizabeth is in Lawrence Co. Ar. living next to the widow of Joshua Renfroe (Wrenfro). This man is kin to Mark. In
1839, Mark died in a horse accident, probably from a fall and a broken neck. Family legend is that the accident happened in the couple's front yard while Elizabeth was watching him leave. That October his last son was born, Joseph L. Renfroe.
Elizabeth married James Hughes, of Lawrence County, Arkansas in the late 1840s. James was
in Wayne County, Tennessee in 1830 and in Lawrence County, Arkansas in 1840 living near Elizabeth Renfroe.
Nancy Renfroe of Lawrence County, Arkansas had a son named John who was born in 1815, a daughter named Elizabeth who married Josiah Killet, and a daughter named Sarah. She may have had more children. I do not know how she is kin to Mark Renfroe. I have two theories. One,
he could be Mark's brother, two, he could be mark and Nathaniel's father and Nancy was much younger than he, thirdly, and the one I think is probably correct is he is Nathaniel's brother and Mark's Uncle.
Searcy Baptist Church was organized June, 1850, under the name of Shilo Baptist Church of Christ, under Elder John Goad. The following is the list of constituent members who went into the organization of the church. Others came in the same year: Brothers J. R. Renfro, A. Cullum, A. Armstrong M. Armstrong, W. G. Sanders, Samuel Armstrong Samuel Guthrie, Charles W. Boatwright James Beckett Samuel Collins; Sisters Milla Renfro, Sarah P. Renfro, Martha Renfro, Caroline Cummum E. McCane, M. McCane, Ann Sanders Sarah Y Shank, Charlotte Kniffen, Mary A. Boatwright, Ellen Boatwright, Virginia Boatwright and Sisters Harder & Crik, (who were not in the organization).
