He enlisted July 5, 1861 in Co D 11th Ga Inf Regt at Dalton, Ga. Discharged July 15, 1862 at Richmond, Va. after horse fell on him fracturing his right shoulder during battle.
In the mid-1870's he moved with his family, along with his father Isham, mother Rebecca, brother Monterville, and other relatives from Georgia to Searcy Co. Arkansas.
He married (1) Cecelia Moore around 1850, (2) the widow Susannah J. Barnes about 1875 with whom he moved to Arkansas.
