Clement Raymer Haulman

Obituary: LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Clement Raymer Haulman, 89, who passed away peacefully Sunday, May 7, 2006, at his residence in Gainesville, Fla. Interment will be in Indian Bayou Cemetery. The Rev. Ira Robinson of Asbury United Methodist Chuch in Lafayette will officiate the services. Ellen Haulman and Elizabeth Haulman, soloists, will perform for the services "In The Garden", "How Great Thou Art", "Beautiful Savior (Fairest Lord Jesus)" and "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God". He was born in Altoona, Penn. April 19, 1917, the son of Russell C. Haulman and Edna Nonemaker Haulman. He had one sister, Mrs. James (Flo) Miller (deceased). Col. Haulman is survived by his wife, Cecil (Chichi) Breaux Haulman; and three sons, Dr. Stephen R. Haulman (wife Janet), of Gainesville, Fla.; Col. David R. Haulman (wife Donna). of Vicksburg, Miss., and Dr. Daniel L. Haulman (wife Ellen), of Montgomery, Ala. There are five grandchildren, R. Scott (wife Melanie), of Wilmington, N.C., Beth, of Leesburg, Fla.; Jennifer and Mark. of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Evan, of Montgomery, Ala. There are two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Steffan, of Wilmington, N.C. Schooling included Altoona High School, West Point Prep School at Ft. Monroe, Va., Penn State University and The Air University and The United States Air Force Institute of Technology. He did post-graduate work at the University of Maryland, Tulane University and the University of New Orleans. He was certified as a testing engineer by the U.S. Air Force and by the Louisiana State Board of Education. He accumulated over 30 years of active and reserve duty in the U.S. Air Force. Clem was commissioned a Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Force in March 1943 upon graduation from Twin Engine Flying School at Blytheville, Arkansas. During WWII, he flew both the B-17 and the B-24 4-engine heavy bombers, serving as a B-24 Bomber Pilot with the 44th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in England. He spent 14 years in Research and Development, as a Testing Engineer and Research and Development Director at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, also doing research work at England Air Force Base, La. He retired from active duty with the U.S. Air Force Aug. 1, 1970. Upon release from active duty, Col. Haulman was employed by Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory which specialized in the inspection and testing of engineering materials. At retirement from there he was Assistant District Manager of the New Orleans District which encompassed the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. He retired April 4, 1979 when he and his wife moved to Riversbend Estates in Lafayette, La. In October, 2004, they moved to Gainesville Fla. Clem was Past Louisiana State Department President of the Reserve Officers Association; past president of Lafayette Chapter No. 5 Reserve Officers Association and past president of the Acadiana Retired Officers Association. He was a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, Hope Lodge No. 45, Free and Accepted Masons; New Orleans Scottish Rite Bodies, 44th Bomb Group (8th Air Force), Veterans Association, Asbury United Methodist Church, Les Amis du Codofil, Krewe of Zeus, Lafayette Community Concert, American Legion Post No. 69, the International B-24 Liberator Club and the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He will be dearly missed not only by his family and friends but by all of those whose lives he has touched throughout the years. Pallbearers will be the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. thus giving the immediate family time to pay their final respects until the services at 1 p.m. in the Chapel.
