Obituary: Albert. J. "A.J." Clifton, 85, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, in a local hospital. He was a native of Lake Arthur and moved to Sulphur in 1930 where he lived with his aunt and uncle, Archie and Henrietta Brannon. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran having served in the Asiatic Theatre. He was a member of American Legion Post 179 and the Woodmen of the World. A.J. retired from Butyl Rubber. He had been a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur and attended the Henning Memorial United Methodist Church where he was involved with the Henning R.O.M.E.O.S. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Frances Clifton of Sulphur; one daughter, Dianne English and husband Charles of Sulphur; two sons, Steve Clifton and wife Doris of Wharton, Texas and Paul Clifton and wife Karen of Sulphur; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Revs. Leon Boggs and Roy Bryan Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
