Burial
Obituary: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2009 at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Marvin Alfred Hoffpauir, Jr., 85, who died at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in Crowley, Louisiana. Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of Saint Michael's will celebrate the Mass and the committal services at Woodlawn mausoleum. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Visitation may be observed from 2:00 p.m. Thursday until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. He is survived by his wife, Delphine Hebert Hoffpauir; 3 sons Stephen Hoffpauir and his wife Carla, Mark Hoffpauir and his wife Sharon and Wayne Hoffpauir and his wife Renee all of Crowley; 8 grandchildren Joshua Hoffpauir and his wife Ashley, Lauren Vardai and her husband Ioan, Leah Hoffpauir, Erin Hoffpauir, Zachary Hoffpauir, Sarah Decarlo, Lindsey Campbell and Jack Campbell; 4 great grandchildren Lane and Brea Hoffpauir, Austin and Paige. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Vurtis Hoffpauir and Curtis Hoffpauir and 4 sisters Berty Sanders, Grace Hoffpauir, Ruby Kmeicek and Myrtle Hoffpauir. Marvin was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, he entered service in May of 1942 and was honorably discharged after the war ended. He moved back to Crowley and soon started work for the U. S. Department of Agriculture from 1946 until his retirement in 1979. At the time of his retirement Marvin was Assistant Field Office Supervisor. In 1979 Marvin began a second career as a quality control supervisor for Supreme Rice Mill in Crowley; Marvin was instrumental for implementing a far reaching quality control program that made it possible for Supreme to remain competitive in a competitive industry. He retired from Supreme in 1994. He then devoted the remainder of his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. Marvin was a devoted Catholic, converting to the church as an adult. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church for the rest of his life. Marvin was a loving husband to his beloved wife Dell and cherished by his three sons, Steve, Mark and Wayne. Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, a love he passed along to his sons. He also donated many hours to St. Michaels Elementary and High School and Notre Dame High School.
