Death

Obituary: Verena Riley, 86, of Sulphur, LA, died at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in a local care facility. Mrs. Riley was born March 27, 1923 in Indian Bayou, LA and lived in Sulphur most of her life. She was a member of Henning Memorial Methodist Church, where she was a past member of the Mustard Seeds. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time in her yard. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly. Mrs. Riley is survived by her sons, Robert Riley of Lake Charles, Ron Riley and wife Jacque of Sulphur, and Edward Riley and wife Annette of Alvin, TX; brothers, Ladd Hoffpauir of Reeves, LA and Billy Hoffpauir of Sulphur, LA; sister, Wilma Grossman of Orange, TX; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Riley; daughter-in-law, Fran Riley; parents, Newton and Mary Lou Hoffpauir; brothers, J.D. Hoffpauir and Norwood Hoffpauir; sisters, Vivian Kelly, Ruth Mitchell, Beverly Farnum and Betty Jenkins; and great-grandson, Tucker Widcamp. Her memorial service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Henning Memorial Methodist Church. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday evening at Mrs. Riley's residence and following the service at the church fellowship hall. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
