Burial
Obituary: A Family Gathering with friends will be celebrated Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Eugene "Gene" Gordon Hoffpauir, 88, who passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 27, 2016 after a brief illness. Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 11:30 am until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette. Interment will be at a later date. Gene was born in Indian Bayou, Louisiana on August 28, 1927. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Gene was employed in Lafayette as Terminal Manager for Eastern Airlines and later at Acadiana Travel Agency, where he specialized in arranging around-the-world trips. After his retirement, Gene and Lil enjoyed traveling with their grandchildren. In addition to traveling, Gene's passion in life was antique cars and he restored them with amazing skills. He was one of the original members of the National Antique Car Association, serving at many levels. Gene was also the past-president of the Acadiana Regional Antique Automobile Club of America. He and friends later founded the Half-Fast Motoring Club, which focused on pre-World War II cars. Gene was a very caring and compassionate person who affected countless lives in a positive manner. Gene is survived by his two children, Bill Hoffpauir and his wife, Doris; Dr. Edward Lyons and his wife, Donna; his grandchildren, Sheryl Lyons Hoerner, Daniel Lyons and his wife, Trisha; Brandon Lyons and his wife, Rachelle; Brent Lyons; and Lauren Lyons; and his great grandchildren, Will and John Hoerner, Maddison Sanders, Hayden and Berkley Lyons, and Hunter Lyons. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Alida Maraist Hoffpauir; his parents, Nathan and Fedora Hoffpauir and his brother, Walden Hoffpauir. Gene's family would like to thank his friends and neighbors who were so supportive in his final days. They also wish to give special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and to his caregiver, Tammy McGee. Gene's passing leaves a void that can never be filled.
