Burial
Obituary: On July 14, 2022, Carl Keith Hoffpauir, also known as Pops, Bubba, Big Boy, Big Daddy, Bigfoot, and many other loving nicknames, peacefully passed away in the arms of his soulmate Dara. He spent his final days surrounded by family and friends to which there was no shortage. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dara Schlesinger Hoffpauir, his children, Laura Jean Hoffpauir, and Carl James Hoffpauir, to whom he never missed an opportunity to express his pride; their spouses, whom he adored, Andrew Smith and Ashley Hoffpauir. And the lights of his life, his three grandchildren, Addisyn, Carl Warren, and Harrison…and countless lists of projects for Carl and Andy to complete. Born into a large family by James D. Hoffpauir and Syliva Hoffpauir on January 2nd, 1959, he spent most of his life as a resident of St. Bernard Parish until relocating to Slidell in 2006. He was a graduate of Chalmette High, where he shined in sports and music and was always proud to tell stories of his accomplishments on the basketball court and adventures with his band, The Extension Chords. He married the love of his life, Dara, at age 19. He was offered a career with Gulf Best Electric at their wedding reception, leading him to join the Electricians Union, IBEW Local 130. Later in life, he found a second career in air condition wholesale supply, where he excelled over several decades due to his love for conversation and exemplary work ethic. He retired from the A/C Supply family in 2019. There will never be enough or the right words to describe him. He was a man of many hobbies and talents; he went from duck blinds in his favorite fields in Gueydan to basketball courts, coaching both of his children, to restaurants and warehouses, picking up many lifelong friends along the way. He was a man who was never shy of a best friend. A gigantic personality with an enormous heart. A carbon copy of his late mother, he treated everyone he met with genuine investment and respect. A lover of a good joke, his playful nature and quick wit were with him to the end. He was the adored baby brother of the late Linda Hoffpauir, the late Kathleen "Kat" Fabra, Winifred "Mikie" (the late John) Carlson, Becky (Larry) Marin, Michael "Boo" (Mary) Hoffpauir, and his oldest brother the late James "Huffy" (Janice) Hoffpauir, who left this earth several hours before to pave the way for his baby brother. He also was the cherished son-in-law of Barbara and Baldo Albrecht and the late Athur Schlesinger Jr. and the treasured ("favorite") brother-in-law of Cheryl (the late Don) Caruso, Christine (Albert) Waller, Barbara (Bruce) Jaufre. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly but are too many to name. In his memory, we ask that you have a great meal and tell a good story to a friend or even a stranger. A memorial gathering for Carl will be held Monday, July 25, 2022, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at St Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The family will also hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
