Burial
Obituary: JENNINGS - A mass of Christian burial for Hazel Navarre Stutes, 97, will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, on Friday, April 23, 2010, at 10 a.m., with Father Charles McMillin officiating. Mrs. Stutes was called to her Heavenly Father on Sunday afternoon from her Jennings residence. Visitation will begin Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume Friday at 8 a.m. until the time of her services. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Mrs. Stutes will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, John Curtis, in the Rayne Community Cemetery. Hazel was born in Rayne, LA to the late Emile & Marie Guidry Navarre on February 23, 1913. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. Hazel was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and a former member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and teaching them how to cook. Hazel was a very kind and loving lady who loved being with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Leaving behind to cherish her memories is her beloved daughter, Erline Perdue, of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Roxanne Myers, of Dequincy & Patricia Tompkins, of Lafayette; five great grandchildren, Rachel, Adam, Anthony, Hailey, and Chase; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, John Curtis Stutes; and four brothers. Carrying Mrs. Stutes to her eternal resting place will be Bill, Adam, and Anthony Myers, Chase Tompkins, and Emile and Tony Navarre. In leiu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care, 422 Kade Drive Suite 4, Jennings, LA 70546.
