Burial
Obituary: Services for Elbert Bevyns "Boots" Hoffpauir, 92, Tyler, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Lloyd James Funeral Home chapel in Tyler with the Rev. Roger Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Elbert B. Hoffpauir was born April 13, 1918, to Elbert Elwood and Rosa Belle Cox Hoffpauir in Bell City, La. He was called home to his Lord and Savior on Sept. 30, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Charles Andrew Hoffpauir and Roland Keith Hoffpauir, and his loving wife, Thelma D. Laughlin Hoffpauir. He is survived by four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews. His family moved from Louisiana to Van where he graduated from Van High School. He attended Kilgore College. Boots began work in the East Texas oil fields as a roughneck. He married Thelma Laughlin, the love of his life, on April 10, 1940, they were married 67 years. He worked in the Gulf Coast shipyards during World War II and later served in the Army Air Corps, where he was a mechanic on B-29s. Boots later worked as an oil scout for Shell Oil Co., with his father at Starchief Oil, and as a landman. He was a member of East Texas Landman's Association. He had been a resident of Tyler for more than 60 years' before moving to Friendswood two years ago. Published in Tyler Morning Telegraph on Oct. 5, 2010Endnotes
