Burial

Obituary: Crowley-Funeral services for Mr. Charles Kelly Spell, Sr., 97, will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, Crowley. Reverend Berl Adams will officiate. Interment will follow in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery, Indian Bayou. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. in Duhon Funeral Home, Crowley, and will continue on Sunday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Mr. Spell passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 8:45 A.M. in a local care facility. A lifelong resident of Crowley, Mr. Spell was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He had at one time worked at Kennedy's Department Store, and he retired as a driver for Crowley Laundry after 35 years of service. He was a wonderful cook, and was especially known for his tasty barbeque sauce. Mr. Spell enjoyed building thing and tinkering around the house. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Spell of Lafayette; daughters, Diane Richardson and husband, LeRoy of Lafayette, Sue Leger and husband, Marvin of Pineville, and Connie Spell of Lafayette; son, Charles K. Spell, Jr. of Lafayette; grandchildren, Joe Leger and wife, Diane, Jason Leger and wife, Joanie, Timothy Leger and wife, Stacey, Jeffery Spell and wife, Elizabeth, and Mark Spell and wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Rachel Leger, Brook Leger, Brittany Leger, Jessica Spell, Anthony Leger, Riley Leger, and Devin Leger; and great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey Leger and Landon Leger. Preceding Mr. Spell in death were his parents, Tilmon and Leah LeDoux Spell; wife, Delia Menard Spell; sisters, Melissa Spell, Winnie Lou Perry, and Corrine Hoffpauir; brothers, Lawrence Spell, Harry D. Spell, and Curtis Joseph Spell; and great-great-granadchild, Dylan Leger. Serving as pallbearers are Joe Leger, Jason Leger, Tim Leger, Anthony Leger, Justin LeBlanc, and Douglas Kidder. Named as honorary pallbearers are Charlie Spell, LeRoy Richardson, Marvin Leger, and Kenneth Beard.
