Individual Details
Florence Hilda Granger
(2 Jun 1924 - 24 May 2020)
Florence Hoffpauir of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 8107 of Sulphur was named Outstanding Hospital Volunteer of the Year for the Louisiana VFW Department of Hospitals.
Armithea "Sissy" Borel, Senior Vice President of the Ladies' Auxiliary VFW in Louisiana, member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW 4759 Starks Memorial Post and Hospital Chairman of Louisiana, presented the certificate and $35 check.
One of the many reasons Hoffpauir was chosen for this award is because she travels to the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria to play bingo and pass out homemade sandwiches.
"She was chosen because of her willingness to go out of her way," Borel explained. "In addition to local volunteerism such as serving homemade snacks, visiting with nursing home patients and sewing clothes for patients, she'd travel to Alexandria to help out there."
The Louisiana Department of the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Southern Conference in Biloxi, Miss. from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
This conference will house members from the southwestern 14 states and will feature training seminars and a buddy poppy hat contest.
