George 'Brown' Mooneyham, a retired sawyer and resident of Leesville for 42 years, died at 11 p.m. on January 29, 1999 in War Memorial Hospital. He was 80.
Mr. Mooneyham came to Leesville as a sawyer for Weber King Mfg. Co. over 42 years ago. He was active in civic and fraternal organizations and served a six-year term on the Vernon Parish school board as president and member of Ward One.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Leesville; a member of Toro Lodge No. 253, F & AM at Hornbeck; a Shriner and a former mayor of Reeves, La.
Mr. Mooneyham had been semi-retired for many years and until his death, was night manager of the Redwood Motel here.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on January 32 in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirby A. Vining officiating. Burial was in Leesville cemetery.
Mr. Mooneyham is survived by his widow, Mrs Verdie Hoffpauir Mooneyham of 501 N. Fourth Street, Leesville; one daughter, Mrs El Dee Wilson, Warner Robbins, GA; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Mrs Julia Whetlockk, Beaumont and one brother, E. E. Mooneyham of Atlanta, GA.
